Massimo Sciacca was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1965. He has been involved in documentary photography since the early 1990s, focusing mainly on social and political topics. His work has appeared in several Italian and international magazines and newspapers. He has produced numerous photo reports in countries such as the Balkans, Afghanistan, South East Asia, South America, USA and Africa. He was awarded the World Press Photo Award in 1998, the Linea D’ombra Prize and the Fuji Prize in photojournalism in 1999. Since the mid-2000’s he has been also involved in documentary filmmaking. He lives and works in Bologna.
